10 Days/ 9 Nights
Day 1
Meet and Greet at Entebbe International
Airport. Transfer to Kampala (approximately
45 minutes).
Dinner and over night at your hotel.
Day 2
After breakfast, transfer to Jinja, previously
the industrial city of Uganda and now growing
to become East Africa’s adventure capital.
It is best known for the source of the River
Nile at the now submerged Rippon Falls, where
the Nile starts its 4,000-mile journey to the
Mediterranean from Lake Victoria. Owen Falls
Dam, located just downstream from the source
of the Nile, provides power for Uganda and parts
of Kenya. Along the way you will observe the
coffee, tea and sugar plantations and colourful
roadside fruit/vegetable markets.
First stop is 40 km from Kampala at Mabira Forest
to see primates and birds. The list for Mabira
Forest Reserve contains almost 300 species.
Many species of the Guinea-Congo Forests biome
are not well-represented in other protected
areas in Uganda,
for instance Francolinus nahani, Caprimulgus
nigriscapularis, Phyllanthus atripennis, Macrosphenus
concolor and Trochocercus nitens.
Lunch at the Black Lantern or Nile Rivers Explorers
Camp for you to enjoy a variety of sumptuous
local dishes on offer. This is the place to
be! Spend the afternoon relaxing at Bujagali
Falls where several rapids are situated close
together. Return to Kampala, arriving early
evening.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 3
Begin the panoramic 217 km drive north-west
through the famous Luwero Triangle to Masindi
Town and then 137km on to Murchison Falls
National Park arriving in time for a picnic
lunch at the spectacularly situated site at
the top of the Falls where you can see the
Nile's beauty perfected! Uganda's largest
national park protects a chunk of untamed
African savannah bisected by the mighty river
Nile. It is named for the dramatic Murchison
Falls, where the world's longest river explodes
violently through a six metres wide cleft
in the Rift Valley forming cascading waves
that thunder against the rocks 43 metres (141
feet) below.
Wildlife populations have largely recovered
from the poaching of the 1980s; in the lush
borassus grassland to the north of the Nile,
elephant, buffalo, giraffe and a variety of
antelope are regularly encountered on game
drives, while lions are seen with increasing
frequency.
The vegetation is characterized by savannah,
riverine forest and woodland. Wildlife includes
lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes,
hartebeests, orbis, Uganda Kobs, chimpanzees
and many bird species. In the cool early morning,
before the sun rises too high, one can see
plenty of game on the
Buligi, Albert and Queen tracks north of the
river Nile
Enjoy the superb comfort and service of the
Nile Safari Camp. It is nestled peacefully
amongst the rich papyrus forest on the southern
banks of the River Nile, located on the parks
western boundary close to the Bugungu gate.
Access is possible via the escarpment road
via Butiaba, saving a day’s parks fees.
Tented camp located on the bank of the Nile
with views over the delta. The Lodge offers
some of the most luxurious accommodation in
Uganda’s largest national park. From
your own private balcony suspended over the
mighty River Nile a massive expanse unfolds.
Hundreds of weaver nests occupy overhanging
trees.
Day 4
Cross the placid Victoria Nile to the northern
Bank. Your guide will help you to catch a
glimpse of the Elephants, Cape, Rothschild's
giraffe, hartebeest, Waterbuck, Oribi, Bushbuck,
Bohor reedbuck and the hyena.
After lunch board a motorised boat for a
safari upstream the calm Victoria Nile to
the base of the falls, stopping just tens
of meters from the hair raising cave - "Devil's
Cauldron". One of the highlights of the
visit to Murchison Falls National Park is
the launch trip from Paraa to the foot of
the Murchison Falls. Hippos and crocodiles
are abundant and one can also see elephants,
buffaloes, waterbucks and a variety of birds
like herons, cormorants, ducks, bee-eaters
fish eagles, kingfishers and sometimes the
rare shoebill. Take time to marvel at the
toothsome hippos, crocodiles and over this
17 km stretch you may see the waterbuck and
Uganda Kob. This is also a zone of many bird
species like Goliath heron, Egyptian goose,
pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant
and the rare shoebill stork.
Over night at Nile Safari Camp.
Day 5
A drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through
verdant countryside and past traditional homesteads
and farms. Fort-Portal rests in the shadow
of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon”.
Enjoy the spectacular landscape enroute, from
rolling hills, to neat tea plantations.
Ndali Lodge perched on the rim of an extinct
volcano which, since its demise, has filled
with water to become the breathtaking Lake
Nyinambuga – 250 acres in size and 130
metres deep. The cottages face west to offer
a panoramic view to the spectacular 'Mountains
of the Moon”.
Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge.
Day 6
Full
day search of chimpanzees at Kibale National
Park located in western Uganda Kamwenge district.
These delightful apes, more closely related
to humans than to any other living creature,
are tremendous fun to watch as they squabble
and play in fruiting trees. Look out for chimpanzee’s
primates and a network of shady forest trails
that provide much to impress butterfly lovers,
while birders are in for a treat with 335
species recorded, including the endemic Prirogrine's
ground thrush.
The elusive forest elephant, smaller and
hairier than its savannah counterpart, moves
seasonally into the developed part of the
park, while other terrestrial mammals include
buffalo, giant forest hog and a half dozen
antelope species. The walk is both informative
and enjoyable.
In the afternoon you may opt to take a boat
trip in one of the crater lakes.
Dinner and overnight at Ndali Lodge
Day 7
Proceed 180 km South-West to Queen Elizabeth
National Park following the mystical Rwenzori
Mt. Range. From open savannah to rainforest,
from dense papyrus swamps and brooding crater
lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward, it is
little wonder that QENP boasts one of the
highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve
in the world.
Almost 100 mammal species and a remarkable
606 bird species makes this superb safari
territory, with elephant, a profusion of hippos,
the elusive giant forest hog and handsome
Uganda kob all regularly sighted around the
tourist village on the Mweya Peninsula - which
also boasts a marvellous waterfront setting
in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains. The
melting glacier waters of the mountains create
a vast wetlands system comprising of two main
lakes, George and Edward, as well as the connecting
Kazinga channel. Thousands of hippos populate
the lake shores. Open savannah dotted with
acacia and Euphorbia trees provide habitant
primates. The park boasts of more bird species
than any other park in Africa.
Arrive at Jacana Safari Lodge in time
for lunch.
Jacana Safari Lodge has seven independent
luxury chalets, and a family cottage that
has two rooms joined together, each is curtained
by the embrace of the dense foliage of Maramagambo
Forest. All the chalets assure its guests
of a peaceful and restorative stay with a
unique theme of their own.
Prepare to go for a boat cruise in the
afternoon.
Enjoy the unique 2 hour boat cruise on the
Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward. This trip
passes through possibly the highest concentration
of hippos. This launch cruise offers an excellent
platform for photography, bird watching and
game viewing. The prolific bird life is colourful
and stupendous with well over 550 resident
species.
Dinner and overnight Jacana Safari Lodge.
Day 8
One Game drive today. Queen Elizabeth National
Park's diverse eco-system of grassy plains,
tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and
volcanic craters is home to an incredible
